Silver Star Mountain Provincial Park Fuel Reduction Project, 2005

Project consisted of clean-up, piling, and burning of logging debris.

Project Objective:

Reduce level of logging waste to provide a defensible area adjacent to homes in the park, should a wildfire occur.

Removing the ladder fuels to reduce the chance of a ground fire becoming a crown fire. Piling trees adjacent to road. One late evening to finish the top block in order to make the move across Silver Star Road the next day.

Falling selected trees to achieve the correct crown separation. Tending to the burn piles to ensure a clean finished product. Removing snags so the excavator and ground crew can safely go in and work an area.
